Tips for gathering evidence to demonstrate your skills

The important thing to remember when gathering evidence is that the more evidence the better - that is, the more evidence you gather to demonstrate your skills, the more confident an assessor can be that you have learned the skills not just at one point in time, but are continuing to apply and develop those skills (as opposed to just learning for the test!). Furthermore, one piece of evidence that you collect will not usualy demonstrate all the required criteria for a unit of competency, whereas multiple overlapping pieces of evidence will usually do the trick!

RIIUMM306D - Conduct mechanical scaling

What evidence can you provide to prove your understanding of each of the following citeria?

Plan and prepare for mechanical scaling operations

  1. Access, interpret and apply mechanical scaling documentation, and ensure the work activity is compliant
  2. Obtain, interpret, clarify and confirm work instructions
  3. Select and wear personal protective equipment appropriate for work activities
  4. Ensure work area is well ventilated before entry
  5. Inspect and assess site conditions to determine scaling requirements and starting point
  6. Select, and check for faults, appropriate tools and equipment for work plan and site conditions
  7. Conduct equipment pre-start checks and start-up procedures
  8. Arrange delivery of scaling equipment to site
  9. Identify, address and report environmental issues, potential risks and hazards
  10. Inspect and assess appropriateness of conducting mechanical scaling
  11. Erect barricades to prevent unauthorised access if necessary
